How jarring to blink our eyes open to a world where such death and destruction can continue unabated, with the whole world watching. Sadly, the kind of atrocity that is taking place is nothing new. But the real-time witnessing of it is.
Of course, there’s resistance. Resistance to oppression stands alongside resistance to changing perceptions. But slowly, the self-righteousness of egoic certainty is sliding over to make space for uncomfortable realizations. Layers upon layers of our favored versions of reality are shaken, and crumbling.
The volume of information that we’re being flooded with daily is far beyond any human’s capacity to process and make sense of. Yet, despite this, disillusionment is happening.
Disillusionment is just another name for the process of awakening. And awakening is painful.
If we can reach an octave or two above the mass reality, then our work is to awaken to the true enemy within. It is our sacred responsibility to tend our inner space, which is our one domain of real sovereignty. To do that, we have to look past observable form and movement — to sharpen discernment of energy.
We are asked to stop clinging to personhood as defined by race, religion, politics, birthplace and nationality. This identification with form causes much confusion. Trapped in an identity-bound reality, it is a natural reflex to project problems externally. We think that these people are the problem; or that those people need to change.
But the real enemy is not as obvious as that. In fact, it hides behind such binary categorical thinking.
As we expand to see beyond the physical realm, we start to see energy. We see entities (or bodies of energy) which can accumulate and stagnate, or move through different stories. They are fluid and shapeshifting.
The real enemy is not an easily identifiable form or movement. It is an energy, which takes on different forms and inhabits different movements.
What is this energy? It is hard to track. But when it is present, we are easily misled — to honor the sacredness of life with more or less reverence, depending on the body it lives in. This energy tempts us to hold our experiences as more valid, or believe our concerns are more pressing. It places our personal safety and freedom at odds with safety and freedom for all.
We are now recognizing (re- cognizing: knowing, perceiving, discerning) an entity that has evaded transmutation for generations. It has traveled across time-space dimensions, probably since before recorded history. It has manifested via many forms of identity politics, and expressed itself in movements of separation and supremacy.
This energy can hide behind many names and faces. But energy is never destroyed or eliminated. When allowed to fester in the shadow unseen, it just shapeshifts and leaks unconsciously.
It's pretty easy to see divisions between nations, races, religions or communities. What is much harder to see is where we harbor separation within the skin that contains one body. We are often blind to the highly defended wall of “That’s not me.”
We each have within us a well of latent capacity for love and joy and generosity. What we need to acknowledge is that there’s another well within that runs just as deep, which holds the potential to hate, to harm and even kill if necessary.
We keep on pointing fingers of judgment, thinking we’re better, more deserving, more righteous, or more enlightened somehow. It’s a bad habit that all of us humans have. But until we look after the abandoned inner child crying out to be saved, this madness continues until we destroy ourselves eventually.
What’s here now is here for our awakening, so we can tune our sight to the true enemy.
Energies are highly contagious. They can jump freely from body to body, or leap from movement to movement, before we even form complete thoughts about them. Unseen, they take up residence inside and run us. But the point of becoming aware of these energies is not to get rid of them. We actually want to befriend them, so that they don’t wreak havoc on our inner landscape in their struggle for survival.
This game of awakening is never ending. As our insight pierces through one layer of illusion, we meet a fresh echo of this energy – in another shape or in another space. Whatever we fight “out there” is also within, and until we are present with that, we will continuously birth baby fractals of the same energy that we think we are rallying against.
There is an intense level of mirroring going on now. If you are already full up to your eyeballs, fair enough. I feel you. It might be best to take a pause from reading here. If you have curiosity and capacity to look within, I lovingly offer you the following inquiries to ponder in a quiet moment alone. I am not here to judge anyone, as I have seen the aliveness of these things within myself too.
Inquiry 1: Where are our minds under occupation by dominant powers that have no concern for our well-being? How have we been colonized by a mind virus of fear, anger, and hatred, which extracts our energy? How are dark forces able to lay waste to our vitality by pulling the puppet strings of our emotional reactivity?
Inquiry 2: When have we become tyrants ourselves, demanding others march in the direction we choose, out of a desperate need to feel in control of external reality? Have we enacted verbal violence to discharge our helplessness? Have we invalidated difference or imposed ideology from a subtle sense of superiority?
Inquiry 3: How are we serving someone else’s agenda or repeating an indoctrinated narrative without realizing? In what ways are we blind to the installed programs of our own conditioning? Can we consider and cultivate more present, spontaneous, emergent ways of moving that might better support our aims?
Creator consciousness can only pour through us in presence. Of course, we remember the past and we dream the future, but we must not get trapped by hurts or derailed by hopes.
To participate in the co-creation of reality, we have to bring our highest capacities to bear in the ecosystem of our current, local weather. Alchemy can only happen here and now.
Let us take aligned action. Let us devote ourselves to creating a New Earth. And in so doing, may we be guided by wisdom and sourced from presence.
May we carefully tend to the how, as much as the what, because how we do things determines the energy we allow, affirm, and replicate. The way we take action is as important as the actions we are taking.
